Wasted Days and Wasted Nights and Wasted Weekends…

As the weather started warming up I was riding more and more. I didn’t have an endorsement but was scheduled to take the Motorcycle Safety course the first weekend in June. In the meantime I was riding to work everyday and cruising around on the weekends. Still looking for a group to tie in with and ride. When I bought the Sporty and my wife started talking to me again she had said she would never ride on the back. One evening a friend stops by the house with his FLH and convinced her to go for a ride. She climbed on the back of his bike and we all went for a cruise down through the park along the river. She had a pretty good time and decided it wasn’t so bad. She finally said she would ride with me after I passed the MSF Rider course and had gotten my endorsement.

The first week of June I took the course, passed it and got my endorsement. After much prodding I finally convinced my wife to go for a ride. She drove her truck down to the park, parked it and climbed on the back of the Sporty with me. We cruised down through the park and back. Pretty uneventful, which was a good thing. She slowly started riding more and more after that.

As for me, well I was happy she was riding with me but I was still looking for a group to ride with. I hadn’t been to church since I bought the Sporty, but weekends were when everyone was out and figured that was my best chance to meet up with other bikers. The weeks went on, still no group to ride with and slipping farther and farther away from God and church. Then one Sunday….

How did I get here....

I never figured myself Riding for the Son. In April of 2005 I bought a 2005 Harley Sportster. I had badgered my wife enough that she said "Just go buy the thing". I knew she really didn't mean it but she did say it. So on April 12th, 2005 I picked up the Sporty. I hadn't ridden in 25 years. I had ridden in my younger days, but mostly dirt bikes and in the wide open spaces. Never had I been on something with as much power as even a Sportster. I barely made it home.

When I got home my wife wouldn't speak to me. In fact she didn't speak for nearly 2 weeks. This was probaby the closest we come to a divorce in over 30 years of marriage. We had our ups and downs over the years but I had really done it this time. She actually called a friend in Arkansas and seriously thought about leaving. Lucky for me she didn't.

After a few weeks things kinda got back to normal around our house. She started talking to me again and I had gotten used riding the Sporty. Things were looking up.

One of the reasons I gave for justifying the Harley was to meet some friends. Oh yeah, I had friends at church but we really didn't do things together. I didn't have any friends outside of church, but that was probably my own fault. I figured with the Harley I would meet some other guys with Harleys and make some new friends. Someone to go riding with, hang out with, and we could be brothers. Boy was I mistaken.....

Welcome to my blog....

Welcome to my blog. This is my first attempt at blogging. I started this one to share my experiences with my Harley, my journeys and riding with the Christian Motorcyclists Association. It's been a long summer with a lot of great experiences. I'll be sharing those experiences in this blog. Stay tuned......
